I don't agree with the idea of submitting to article directories. IMO it's a complete waste of time and effort for a minimal return.

try to write as much quality content as you can that will encourage the readers to link to your site. write quality articles and submit them to article directories. participate in forums, discussion boards that are related to your website's niche and add a link to your site in the signature, and it should be quality post. Comment on a related blog post. and submit your site link to major, well known web directories.
